Hello DMCers. My name is The Dipsomaniac and I’m honored to have been asked to contribute here at Drink Music City. In olden days, the term dipsomaniac was kinda pejorative since it described “a medical condition involving an uncontrollable craving for alcohol.” But you know, it is what it is and I’ll be happy to wear the Scarlet D over here.
Unlike most of the people who you probably meet while out drinking, I’m a native Nashvillian. I’m pretty sure that my first hundred beers were all consumed at the Station Inn, thanks to those easy-to-fake green paper drivers licenses we all had back in the `80’s. (Anybody else remember those?)
To further date me, I was one of the last birthdays not to get grandfathered in when the drinking age went from 18 to 19 to 21. Dammit. Luckily, I was close enough to usually get by, so I have a long history of touring the bars of our fair city.
I’ll be covering the cocktail and bar scene here at Drink Music City, at least those places that don’t mind folks who usually like to get home in time for “Matlock.” There’s nothing wrong with a little bit of occasional day drinking.
Ever since I finally got over an incident where I might have seen my dead relatives beckoning to me me to step over to the other side after a few too many tequila/Sprite poppers, there’s really nothing I won’t at least try to drink. Bourbon is still my favorite, usually about two fingers worth with a couple of ice cubes and a splash, but I’m down with the cocktails too.
So join me on this ride as we strive to keep you all informed of the latest trends in spirits and the best events in town to get your tipsy on.
