If you’re a regular Drink Music City reader, you know how avid your editors here when it comes to cocktail culture. You’re also probably the perfect demographic to attend the 11th annual Tales of the Cocktail next week in New Orleans. Tales is the event for fans of the art of fine drinking and your best opportunity to rub elbows with the creme de la creme of the liquor industry at some of the best bars in the country. Distillers, mixologists, brand representatives and just plain old cocktail enthusiasts descend on the Big Easy for six days of eating, drinking, learning and general debauchery, and it’s a surprisingly affordable vacation destination.
It’s also hotter than hell and humidity levels can reach the high nineties, so dress accordingly. That is to say, not much. Evening events are a little more formal, but nobody’s gonna look down their nose at you if you dress to be cool rather than to look cool. This is New Orleans, the town that care forgot, so laissez le bon temps rouler!
Over at the Nashville Scene’s Bites page, you can find a good primer to everything you need to know to get the maximum enjoyment out of a visit to Tales. It’s not too late to register and find a cheap hotel room in the Quarter, so maybe you need to spend the rest of the week telling your coworkers that you have a little tickle in your throat and that a bad summer cold might be coming on. By the time you get back to work after a long weekend at Tales, you’ll look genuinely under the weather, so your cover story should be solid.
